Becky Hill should give her fella a writing credit on her debut album after revealing her tracks are filled with the ups and downs of their romance.
After years of lending her powerhouse vocals to other people’s hits, the Better Off Without You singer says the record has been a ten-year slog.
‘Basically, it’s about the last decade of my life,’ the 26-year-old, who first rose to prominence on series one of The Voice in 2012, told Guilty Pleasures.
‘I’ve been writing it for about that amount of time, so it’s a real labour of love for me.
‘It’s a therapeutic journal but in music form.’ And the content is largely inspired by her lover — who she reunited with last year after they took a time out.
‘As great as my relationship is now, it’s fair to say it’s been pretty rocky in the past, which has been the inspiration to a lot of my music,’ she added.
And she assured her man: ’I always just try to be as honest as possible about it (our relationship).’
After dropping a taster of things to come with new single Space, Hill says it’s time to reflect on how she ended up calling the shots on her music career after some false starts.
‘The highs have been reaching the charts with songs that I have written and sang, and the lows would probably be getting dropped from my first record deal,’ she admitted.
But relishing the silver lining she said: ‘That being said, I learned so much through the lows and I’ve worked hard to come back from that and start my own label.’
Loving being her own woman and boss, she said: ‘Always feeling secondary and just being a voice rather than known as the song writer and artist… it’s been a challenge to even get music videos of most of the features I’m on, so I’m pleased people are starting to recognise me as an artist in my own right.’
What’s next for her and her pet bull terrier? ‘World domination,’ she answers.

Romain-tic stroll… but loved-up Rita dismisses wedding rumours
Rita Ora insists she has noth-bling to hide after shooting down claims she is about to bolt up the aisle with her new hunk.
The Hot Right Now singer, 29, looked like she had something to celebrate on Saturday, when she and Romain Gavras, 39, joined her sister Elena and pals for beers at Guy Ritchie and David Beckham’s pub.
Two days earlier, Reets had flashed a sparkler on her engagement finger.
But Ora, who has dated Calvin Harris, Gerard Butler and Brooklyn Beckham, kept her hand firmly hidden as she and French-Greek film-maker Gavras strolled home from The Walmer Castle, Notting Hill, on Saturday night.
And the chart-topper insists the diamond and black-stoned ring she had been seen showing off was nothing more than a flash in the hand.
She was seen at dinner in west London’s Taqueria on Thursday showing off the jewels to some of her chums.
But her reps last night told GP there is ‘no truth’ to reports Gavras popped the question. The couple has been an item for several months and went to Ibiza together after Ora emerged from a lonely lockdown in the Cotswolds.
Butler’s on mission to give life story a happy ending
Gerard Butler aims to flip the script on his torrid run of luck.
His six-year romance with lover Morgan Brown, 49, (with him, right) ended during lockdown and he admitted: ‘That’s been much harder than I thought.’
Their split came after 300 star Butler, 50, had seven surgeries when an op went wrong, and was involved in a near-fatal motorbike crash.
‘The things I’ve been through, as a person, make me think about a different kind of impact I could leave behind. So it’s started me on a full-blown quest, which I’m in the middle of right now,’ he added.
Romeo’s creating a fuzz…
It’s Ro-mo Beckham! David’s lad Romeo, 18, is already into his famous dad’s hobby of manscaping after growing a terrific tash.
It means the keen tennis player’s model girlfriend, Mimi Moocher, is in for some serious stubble rash.
The pair couldn’t keep apart, even on Instagram, smooching for followers.
Their kiss came after Romeo’s big bro Brooklyn, 21, landed in hot water last week when he mimicked throttling fiancé Nicola Peltz, 25, in their own attempt at a PDA.
Pearl Jam are first for a park double
Pearl Jam has given fans double reason for hope after signing up to play two consecutive nights at next year’s British Summer Time Hyde Park festival — the first act to do that.
They will be supported by the Pixies and Idles for the July 9 and 10 shows.
The Even Flow rockers, fronted by Eddie Vedder, were on the bill for this year’s festival before it was shelved due to the pandemic.
Fan’s X-rated crush made Tom blush
Tom Grennan received X-rated DMs from an admirer after he let slip he was single.
The singer, 25, told Badoo’s The Truth Flirts podcast a fan sent a pic of his name written on her private parts but he didn’t reply.
Letting her down gently, he said: ‘I’m not a person to think about sex all the time.’
