Fans of Adele have gone wild with the prospect that she could be releasing new music, after she announced her return to television.

The 32-year-old singer confirmed that she will be hosting next week’s episode of Saturday Night Live (SNL), almost 12 years following her first appearance.

Since she made the announcement, social media has been sent into a frenzy, with many suggesting that Adele could be gearing up for the release of a new studio album.

The rumours were further fuelled after Showbiz 411 reported that the Someone Like You hitmaker could drop her fourth record on October 30.

Across Twitter, fans were quick to share their thoughts, with one tweeting: ‘If Adele drops new music I will take back anything bad I ever said about 2020.’

One other added: ‘Oh my god!!! Please don’t play with me Is Adele for real coming back with new music!!! I can’t….’

‘OMG GUYS IS ADELE FINALLY COMING IM SO EXCITED FOR HER MUSIC OKAY,’ another excited supporter wrote.

If Adele does come out with a new album, it will be her first in five years, following the release of 25 in 2015.

In the past, she had hinted that her fourth album may not be titled after her age like her previous ones.

She told James Corden during her appearance on Carpool Karaoke in 2016: ‘This is the last album after my age. I believe in trilogies, yeah. The next one is just gonna be “Adele.”’

Adele has also announced that singer-songwriter H.E.R. will be the musical guest when she hosts SNL for the first time.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote: ‘Bloooooody hellllll I’m so excited about this!! And also absolutely terrified! My first ever hosting gig and for SNL of all things!!!

‘I’ve always wanted to do it as a stand alone moment, so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right.’

She continued: ‘It’ll be almost 12 years to the day that I first appeared on the show, during an election… which went on to break my career in America, so it feels full circle and I just couldn’t possible say no!

‘I am beside myself that H.E.R. will be the musical guest! I love her SO much I can’t wait to melt into a flaming hot mess when she performs, then confuse myself while I laugh my a**e off in between it all.’
