Love Island’s Mike Boateng is officially back on the market in the villa after being savagely dumped by Leanne Amaning, and boy is he letting everyone know it.
But noone could’ve been prepared for his attempts at trying to crack on with Sophie Piper – who until this episode, literally called him Uncle Mike… which is never a great romantic start.
Pulling her for a chat as he decided to make the most of his time in the villa, Mike explained to Sophie that he was interested in getting to know her more.
Then classically backtracked about it.
‘I feel like in a sense my love island journey has started again,’ Mike said to Sophie, who had also found herself single again after other half Connor Durman was eliminated earlier this week.
‘That’s literally… it’s like a refresh,’ she agreed. ‘A reboot. Just because yous don’t work, it doesn’t mean it can’t work with someone else who comes in.’
Mike then took his chance and said: ‘Why somebody that comes in? Why not somebody who’s already here?’
Realising what was happening, Sophie’s eyes went wide as she fanned herself as he told her: ‘Your heart just went! This is what I’m doing.’
After the shock settled, he said: ‘Ok, so talk to me a bit more about it.’
Panicking, he said: ‘I’m playing, I’m playing!’
‘…You’re not,’ Sophie responded, not having it.
… Yeah he totally wasn’t playing – and those watching from home had to hide behind their hands at the super awkward moment.
Viewers were left cringing at the whole exchange – and recoiled as she appeared to friendzone him.

Unfortunately for Sophie, she’s not the only girl he had his eye on during tonight’s episode – with him making moves on Jess literally the next morning.
Jess however, wasn’t so receptive and instead thought it was him in a panic over now being single in the villa.
Love Island continues weeknights at 9pm on ITV2.
