Viewers of BBC’s Ambulance have been left in tears at the kindness of strangers as bystanders were seen helping a patient who attempted suicide.
The 78-year-old woman, who wasn’t identified on the show, was helped out by passers-by after she was found in the River Thames.
The crew ended up taking her to hospital, and she opened up about her mental health on the way there.
One lady was seen getting tearful as she told her: ‘I’ll stay until you tell me not to.’
Viewers were left heartbroken for her, and emotional at the kindness shown to her by the strangers who helped out.
One viewer said: ‘Almost in tears at watching #Ambulance already. Poor lady feeling like she just wanted to die and that lovely lady who stayed with her was an absolute star.’

‘What an incredible bystander,’ another said, while one more added: ‘That young lady is so kind and caring. She couldn’t have done any more for the poor woman.’
‘I’m already crying watching #ambulance. What an incredible bystander staying with the lady in the Thames,’ one more said.
Elsewhere on the show, the paramedics helped a man who had relapsed after an alcohol detox, and a patient who suffered from schizophrenia.
It comes after the show ‘restored faith in humanity’ in a previous episode, when an ambulance crew bought a homeless patient a McDonalds.
The act of kindness marked the end of the episode, where the pair were called out to a Poundland in Barking after a man was assaulted.
It then transpired that 31-year-old Gavin was injured by a security guard after being accused of trying to shoplift biscuits from the store.
Gavin explained he had depression and made himself ‘voluntarily homeless’ after leaving his partner to avoid arguments in front of his two-year-old son, and had been living in an abandoned building.
He told paramedics he hadn’t seen his son for six months, or eaten for over 24 hours. Like knights in shining armour, the parademics ran to a nearby McDonald’s to get Gavin something to eat.
Ambulance airs Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC One.
