Mike Tyson has sent a worrying message to Roy Jones Jr ahead of their exhibition fight in September.

Iron Mike and the former four-weight world champion will box an eight-round exhibition bout in California on 12 September, in Tyson’s first fight since 2005 and Jones’ first for over two years.

The pair will be using bigger gloves than in a pro bout and have made an agreement not to be looking for knockouts, but Tyson is talking like we should expect just about anything when the gloves are on.

In a promotional video for the fight, the 54-year-old said he had contrasting feelings over the fight, but both sound as unhinged as the other.

‘Human beings are not meant to be humble. We’re not born to be humble, we’re born to be humbled,’ said Iron Mike.

‘My ego’s f***ing with me and saying, “you think you’re fly, you ain’t s**t.

‘He’s going to get in there and kick your ass, you better get on top of your game or you’re going to get embarrassed in front of these f***ing people.

‘Then the other ego is saying, “F**k you! Watch what I’m gonna to do.”‘

51-year-old Jones Jr certainly appears to be the calmer of the two in the build-up to the bout, but admits that he has a monumental task ahead of him against the youngest ever world heavyweight champion.

Jones Jr did win a world title at heavyweight in 2003, but campaigned at middleweight, super-middleweight and light-heavyweight over his career and is taking on a ‘monster’ in the Baddest Man on the Planet.

Boxing’s a brutal sport. He dominated, dominated,’ said Jones. ‘His legs are huge, his thighs are huge, his arms are huge, his neck is huge.

‘It’s very risky, yes. But God’s in control of all.

‘I was beating everybody in every weight class I was in, so what you gonna do?

‘It’s like David and Goliath, he’s a giant monster, we know. I’m little David and all I’ve got is God on my side, which is all I’m gonna need.’

Jones ended his professional career in February 2018 with a victory at cruiserweight, leaving him with a record of 66-9.

Tyson has not fought since a knockout defeat to Kevin McBride in 2005, with his record standing at 50-6.
