It’s been announced that Lady Red, a drag queen featured on viral YouTube series Hey Qween, has died.
The performer had previously been hospitalised due to complications with a chronic condition called cyclic vomiting syndrome.
Lady Red was a permenant feature on Hey Qween, which is presented by Jonny McGovern.
Posting on Instagram today, Jonny announced to fans that despite showing signs of improvement, Lady Red died today.
‘I can’t believe I am writing this message but the unthinkable has happened,’ the statement began.
‘This morning at 5am, I received a call from the hospital letting me know that Lady Red just passed away. I was told she was improving yesterday and ready to move out of intensive care.
‘But very early this morning she had an episode and coded and she was just gone. I was just with her Mom and sister. We are in shock. We are devastated.’
It continued: ‘I know she meant so much to many people […] for today, all I can do is cry and mourn the giant loss of my sister, creative partner and best friend.’
Beloved by many fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Hey Qween paid host to many famous former contestants over the years, and Drag Race alum were among those paying tribute to Lady Red.
Delta Work branded the news ‘devastating’ and Kameron Michaels called Lady Red ‘such an angel.’
Manila Luzon added: ‘This is a great loss. We are all lucky to know her — she added so much joy to this world.’
