Barcelona are demanding that Arsenal offer Matteo Guendouzi plus €50 million (£45.5m) to secure the services of Philippe Coutinho, according to reports.
The Brazilian was sent out on a season-long loan to Bayern Munich at the start of the campaign, however, the German champions have decided not to sign the midfielder on a permanent deal.
Coutinho has struggled to live up to his £142 million price tag since making the switch from Liverpool to Camp Nou in 2018 and the 28-year-old could be moved on in the next transfer window.
Meanwhile, Matteo Guendouzi has fallen out of favour at Arsenal and is yet to be included in a matchday squad since he grabbed Neal Maupay by the neck after the Gunners’ defeat to Brighton last month.
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, the Spanish giants are prepared to let Coutinho move to the Emirates in a player-plus-cash deal, with Guendouzi going the other way.
The report states that the offer is not an attractive one for the Gunners, who are unwilling to depart with that amount of money as well as their highly-rated 21-year-old.
Negotiations are said to be progressing well, but, if Coutinho cannot be included in a deal, Barca are offering midfielders Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal in exchange for Guendouzi instead.
Despite a promising first season with the Gunners, the youngster’s attitude has been brought into question on a number of occasions.
As well as the Brighton incident, Guendouzi was dropped from the squad earlier this season after a reported argument between himself and Mikel Arteta during their training camp in Dubai.
The Frenchman is said to be training on his own, apart from the first-team squad, and Arsenal hero Kevin Campbell believes there is no way back for him at the club.
‘I think that Guendouzi will leave the club this summer. Arteta has come in and he’s set a lot of disciplinary rules down,’ Campbell told Genting Bet.
‘Guendouzi has fallen foul of those rules. I don’t think he’s the type of player who is going to knuckle down and that’s why he’s training alone.
‘The writing is on the wall on this one, and I can’t see him coming back into the fold unless he changes his attitude.’
