Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin knew when she decided to be a part of Season 3 of The Masked Singer that her unmasking would shock viewers, and that was exactly why she said “yes” to the Fox series.
Back in March, the 2008 Vice Presidential hopeful was unmasked as the singer wearing the Bear costume. On this week’s Masked Singer aftershow, Palin said that being able to hide her identity on the show allowed her to do whatever she wanted to without caring about what anyone else would say about her.

“I knew it would be so refreshing and so freeing and well, in a real respectful way, kind of a walking middle finger to the haters out there in the world, where I could do whatever I wanted to do and not care what anybody said because they wouldn’t know until after the fact,” Palin explained to host Nick Cannon. “So it all worked out.”
Palin described the experience as weird, wild, and fun, and she also admitted it was the “craziest” thing she has ever done. The politician said that being a part of The Masked Singer did bring her a lot of positive attention, which was a welcome change from some of the coverage she’s received in the past 12 years.
Palin said that her performances in the tie-dyed bear costume – including rapping to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby Got Back – showed off her true personality. It allowed her to show the world who she really is, which is someone who wants to live life vibrantly and take risks because “that’s how you grow.”

Sarah Palin explained that she has been working for years with “all these intellectual, political commentaries,” but she has never received a reaction like she got when she was part of The Masked Singer.
She said that the entire experience was positive and encouraging, and she “just absolutely loved it.” Palin added that she feels really blessed that the show wanted to include her and asked her to be a part of Season 3.
New episodes of The Masked Singer air Wednesday nights on Fox until the season finale on May 20th.
