Sheridan Smith’s character Mel is seen struggling to life in self-isolation alone while pregnant in a tragic first look at ITV’s new Isolation Stories.
The special 15-minute episode, which was all shot and directed remotely from fiance Jamie Horn’s home, will see her play a soon-to-be mum who feels abandoned by her family and friends.
In the first look clip, Mel is seen speaking to a man, before realising he has a house of people around him during lockdown.
Heartbroken, she tells him: ‘You’ve got 11 people, and you didn’t even ask me!’
Walking around an empty flat, Mel is seen finding it hard to adjust and figure out what to do with herself, but a friendly voice is seen telling her as she breaks down in tears: ‘I know you’ll be a lovely mum.’
Sheridan’s story is just one of four specials created for the new mini-series, which will run every day this week from 9pm, that aims to discuss different ways of dealing with the coronavirus lockdown.
Mel will see the character facing with having to go through birth without the married father of her child – who has chosen to stay with his wife and family – and without her own family, who have left her to fend for herself.
The actress is actually pregnant in real life, and is expecting her first child, a baby boy – with her due date expected this month after making the announcement in November.
‘I am heavily pregnant and have been isolating at home so I jumped at the chance to make a drama about the massive drama going on all around us right now,’ Sheridan said when the project was announced.
‘I think it’s really important to try and reflect what’s happening to us whilst it is still actually happening.’
Isolation Stories air nightly this week from 9pm on ITV.
