The parents of a 32-year-old woman who was killed after being hit by a pickup truck in Long Beach in January are suing the driver and owner of the vehicle.
Ronald and Stephanie Davenport, the father and mother of Kymberly Davenport, filed the wrongful death/negligence suit Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Erik and Martha Mora, identified in the complaint as the driver and owner of the truck, respectively.
The suit, which seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, does not state the relationship between the Moras, who could not be immediately reached for comment.
Davenport, of Long Beach, died at a hospital shortly after she was struck by a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck near Palo Verde Avenue and Atherton Street at about 8:20 p.m. Jan. 22, not far from Cal State Long Beach, police said at the time.
Erik Mora, 18, of Downey, was headed south on Palo Verde Avenue in the fast lane when he struck Davenport, who was not in a crosswalk, police said.
The suit alleges the driver was speeding and not paying attention. Davenport’s death has deprived her parents of her love and companionship and they had to pay medical and funeral expenses, according to the suit.
