Gogglebox stars were left heartbroken over the abuse scenes between Coronation Street’s Geoff Metcalfe and Yasmeen Nazir.
The stars of the show were in tears at the scenes, which showed the abuse storyline culminating in Yasmeen (Shelley King) stabbing Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) and leaving him for dead.
One scene showed Geoff forcing Yasmeen to undress in front of him, and put on a dress he’d bought for one of his escorts for a trip to the Rover’s Return.
‘There’ll be people out there who are treated like this,’ Jenny pointed out, as she was left in tears at the shocking scenes.
‘It’s just a show,’ her best friend Lee added, with Jenny responding: ‘Well, for you.’
With Corrie ending on the cliffhanger of whether or not Geoff survived the stabbing, the Gogglebox stars were left horrified by the act of self-defence, with some arguing that Geoff has ‘won’ as Yasmeen will never be able to get over how she reacted.
Coronation Street’s latest episode showed Yasmeen being held in police custody.
With Geoff having woken up following the incident, he was prepared to speak to the police, and upon doing so, he wasted little time in painting Yasmeen as the abusive one in the relationship.
However, Alya (Sair Khan) showed up and confronted him over what’s transpired, and revealed to all those present that it’s he who’s been abusing and controlling Yasmeen — not the other way around.
The police questioned Geoff about his past — and DS Abney (Fiona Skinner) found it a little odd that he’s allegedly been the ‘victim’ of three abusive women.
Back at the station, she questioned Yasmeen further, and presented images of Geoff’s neck wounds for her to see — something which resulted in Yasmeen breaking down in tears, as she revealed that she desperately wanted to see her husband in order to apologise.
However, it soon became apparent that this simply wasn’t an option, as she was later charged with attempted murder.
