Valley Economic Alliance Announces New CEO, President

The Valley Economic Alliance Monday introduced its new president and CEO, who will start working in her new role Thursday.

Sonya Blake comes to the VEA after working as the director of community business in Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Office of Economic Development.

“Sonya is driven to make a difference. Her passion, intelligence, eloquence, leadership and strong background in economic development make her the right person to lead the alliance,” said VEA Chairman Randy Witt.

Blake participated in the city’s establishment of an $11 million Small Business Emergency Microloan program to help businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I’m excited and looking forward to this next chapter of recovery and growth in the Valley,” she said. “The alliance has an important role to play in revitalizing Valley businesses and the local economy. We need immediate short-term disaster recovery and plans for long-term economic development that will lift all parts of the Valley towards prosperity and a better quality of life.”

The VEA is a nonprofit organization consisting of partnerships that address issues affecting the San Fernando Valley in business, education, government and communities.
