Sia is feeling regretful over not taking a public stand with Kathy Griffin, and is now apologizing for it.
Back in 2017, Griffin found herself at the centre of firestorm when she posed for a photo in which she proudly held up the fake severed head of recently elected President Donald Trump.
The fallout was severe for the comedian, resulting in death threats, lost work (including being fired from CNN’s annual New Year’s Eve show), being placed on a no-fly list and even investigated by the Secret Service (she was later exonerated).
On Friday, the “Chandelier” singer issued an apology to Griffin “for not publicly supporting her over the last three years.”
She added: “I support you and I’m sorry I didn’t shout it from the rooftops sooner. Only love.”
While Griffin has publicly detailed how much the backlash over the photo impacted her life and career, in a 2019 interview with “CBS This Morning” she insisted that if she had the chance for a do-over she wouldn’t change a thing.
“No. Because I’ve learned so much,” Griffin explained. “And the most important thing that I hope people see is that long after I kick the bucket they see the crazy red-haired lady didn’t go down. So I think the momentum is finally going in my direction.”
