San Pablo Avenue Construction in Palm Desert Poised to Begin; Delays Expected

A half-mile stretch of northbound San Pablo Avenue between Highway 111 and Royal Palm Drive will be closed for road construction work from Feb. 3 through April, Palm Desert city officials said Wednesday.

The city’s aim is to transform San Pablo Avenue into a “key artery” amid a neighborhood redevelopment push “where walking, biking and fun is the focus,” according to city documents.

“The temporary move to one-way traffic on a portion of San Pablo is intended to expedite construction and ensure that the improvement project is completed this May,” city spokesman David Hermann said.

A sliver of San Gorgonio Way in the eastbound direction between San Pablo and San Rafael avenues will also be closed.

Temporary parking spaces will be created in the area to accommodate nearby businesses, according to Hermann.

Motorists should prepare for delays and adjust their routes accordingly, he said.
